Ayurvedic Foot Reflexology

In today’s world the most important natural health and healing activity is virtually unviable—Natural Reflexology—walking barefoot on the beach/bare dirt or through grass.

Natural reflexology serves to connect our energy with Mother Earth energy, which creates grounding, balance and promotes positive health by maintaining balance of three subtle energies—(Doshas) known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each person is born with a unique blend of these energies (Prakrut). When disturbed by unhealthy diet, stress, weather/climate, the resulting imbalance contributes to the underlying cause of all physical, mental, emotional and spiritual disease.

Ayurveda (‘ayur,’ meaning life and ‘veda’ meaning knowledge) is a traditional healing system. Two thousand-five hundred to four thousand years ago, India metaphysicians created Ayurveda Foot Reflexology to replace the natural health and healing activity, which was becoming less viable.

Ayurveda Reflexology maintains foot health, stimulates blood and lymphatic movement, delivers nutrients to tissues, warms and relaxes muscles, regulates energy (Prana and calms body and mind.

Ayurveda Reflexology differs from other forms of reflexology you may have experienced. Instead of working on dry feet, Ayurveda Reflexology uses oils specifically selected according to the dosha(s) out of balance at the time of treatment. Such base oils include: sesame, coconut, mustard and ghee. Other essential oils may be included—holy basil, cardamon, cedar wood, cinnamon, fennel, frankincense, ginger, lime, patchouli, rose, sandalwood and vetiver. Special attention is paid to toes, as Prana is believed to be stored in joints.

Another unique component of Ayurveda Reflexology is the use of a small metal ‘kansa’ bowl. The bowl is oiled and rubbed on the soles of the feet, producing a mild heat which balances foot and body temperature, and also draws out toxins. Following this, the five Marma points are addressed. Marma points are the acupuncture points in the feet and are worked with the fingertips to release Prana and restore energetic flow. The finishing touches to a Ayurveda Reflexology session, include rose or sandalwood cleansing powers (Ubtans) and warm towels remove any remaining oils, leaving your feet refreshed and energized.
